National Shortage of ADHD Medications

pill

NHS England have issued a notice regarding a national shortage of the following medications for the management of ADHD.

  • Methylphenidate prolonged release capsules (EquasymXL, Xaggitin XL, Concerta XL and Xenidate XL)

  • Lisdexamfetamine capsules (Elvanse) capsules

  • Guanfacine prolonged release tablets (Intuniv)

  • Atomoxetine capsules (Strattera)

The supply disruption of these products is caused by a combination of manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Currently the supply disruptions are expected to last for a few months.

Parents and carers are advised to try and source their medication from pharmacies that may have a supply available.

The national shortage of ADHD medications is undeniably a challenging situation. The ADHD foundation website has resources that may be of benefit during this time:-
