Young people taking the lead in creating a greener future for Wirral
On Wednesday 25 June, Wallasey Town Hall was taken over by young people from across the borough who are passionate about climate change, Wirral’s wildlife and sustainability.
The Climate Comeback event was designed and run by young people, for young people. Helping them to feel empowered to make a real difference in Wirral’s green future.
Opened by Wirral’s Mayor, Brian Kenny, it was a fun, action-packed day including:
speeches
a powerful dance performance by the SEND Youth Voice group on the importance of young people with additional needs having representation in action against climate change
workshops
a marketplace of stall with opportunities to have a go at sustainable skills, such as sewing
plus many chances for young people to influence local and regional decisions about climate issues!
The inclusive event was also tailored to children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities, so it was great to see such a big turn out from some of Wirral’s specialist settings, such as Clare Mount Specialist Sports College and Meadowside School.
“It was a pretty cool event. I liked debating about the tourism project in Anglesey!”
“The staff at the Climate Comeback event were fantastic! They made me feel welcome and I learned lots about how we can help the Wirral become greener!”
“I had a fun day. I loved the Swap Shop - I got a top and have upcycled it. I liked planting my own basil plant too.”
