Summary of the September 2025 Board Meeting

Continuous Improvement Group

  • The team has made progress on the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Recovery Plan. More EHCPs are being completed, and the average wait time has dropped by over 60 days.

  • The “This is Me” neurodevelopmental profiling tool continues to be rolled out to help schools better understand children’s needs. Most schools will be have completed training on the tool by the end of October.

  • The Assisted Travel Policy is being reviewed. A public consultation will run from 6 October to 4 January. The aim is to make travel support fairer and help young people become more independent.

  • Work on helping young people prepare for adulthood is moving forward. A new Young Adult Service is being planned to support transitions from children’s to adult services.

  • New Clinical Coordinators and Special School Nurses have been recruited to improve support for children with complex needs.

Strategic Delivery Group

  • The group undertook a review of the delivery plan.

  • A risk and issues workshop was held.

Performance and Impact Group

  • The SEND Dashboard shows improvements in some areas, like shorter waiting times for speech and language therapy.

  • However, EHCPs are still not being completed within the 20-week target. The team is working hard to fix this by hiring more staff and improving systems.

    A recent audit showed that many EHCPs need better quality. A new role has been created to lead this work.

Strategic Communications Group

  • Comms and marketing analysis due to go out to tender by 30 September for a two-week period

  • Planning underway to co-produce the SEND roadshow. This will comprise weekly engagement opportunities for stakeholders.

  • Discussion with procurement took place. This was about the commissioning of a third-sector organisation to co-produce, with families, information on local systems and processes.

What’s Planned for the month ahead

  • Co-produce the Preparation for Adulthood framework.

  • Launch of the Neurodevelopment Hub on SENDLO.

  • Start of the Assisted Travel Policy consultation.

  • Continued work on improving EHCP quality and timeliness.

  • Planning for the Young Adult Service and its launch event, “Spring into Adulthood."

  • More engagement with families through events and feedback sessions.

  • Reviews of the Quality Assurance process and mediation data accuracy will take place.

  • Gain an understanding of the Participation and Engagement review and strategy.

  • SEND Strategy launch to take place.

  • Comms around SALT to show how the partnership is delivering targets.
