Our SEND Partnership - What We Talked About

Checking Progress on Agreed Actions

The board reviewed past actions. Nine actions are open. Several need more time.

  • Year 9 health checks

  • Work experience placements for children with EHCPs

  • How progress is reported across health and education.

  • A meeting between the Strategic Comms Group Chair and Parent Carer Participation Wirral is arranged.

  • The SEND Local Offer workplan has been shared. Members were happy with progress.

How we are improving SEND services

Updates were shared on SEND improvements.

  • Recruitment for a Health Coordinator has progressed.

  • There is pressure on EHCP consultations for Year 6–7 transitions. A report on transitions will come in March. There were also positive improvements.

  • Members agreed to promote the Preparation for Adulthood section of SENDLO in their organisations and settings.

  • Members agreed to support a single Neurodevelopmental Pathway.

Checking how strong our SEND partnership is

Two workshops will be held to assess how well the SEND partnership is working against seven standards. This is called the Local Partnership Maturity Assessment. A draft assessment will be shared in February.

SEND Improvement Notice Stocktake - Review of government feedback

The board noted the findings from the September review. It was raised that papers have not been uploaded to SENDLO since September 2025; this will be fixed.

Strategic Delivery Group - Plans for developing SEND services

The group shared updates on workforce development, SEND sufficiency, and work linked to the SEND Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. The board approved the plans and timelines.

Performance and Impact Group

The group reported that there was continuing improvement in Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) waiting times and advice given for needs assessments. The group will continue to focus on EHCP timeliness and the development of the ND pathway.

Strategic Communications Group - Improving how we share information

A verbal update was shared . Progress has been made with the Intervention Support Fund. The board noted the update.

Risk Register Workshop - understanding the risks to SEND services

A workshop reviewed risks affecting SEND services. An updated risk register will come in March.

Other updates and information

The board received an update on the assisted travel consultation. Six recommendations were agreed at a recent committee meeting. Work has started in all six.
