Cruise around the coast in one of Wirral’s beach wheelchairs

a blue wheelchair with large tyres on the beach with the sea in the background

The summer holidays are just around the corner. So, you might be thinking about a trip to the beach!

For wheelchair users and people with mobility difficulties this often isn't easy. Navigating sand and the salt air from the sea can be difficult in a standard wheelchair. You might have already seen Wirral's beach wheelchairs in action, or had a go. These specialist chairs help everyone to access Wirral's coastline in West Kirby and New Brighton. The council has six beach wheelchairs that that you can hire for FREE.

Where can I hire a chair?

Beach wheelchairs are available at:

  • Wirral Water Sport Centre, West Kirby. You can book a chair by visiting the centre in person or calling 0151 929 7707.

  • The Floral Pavilion, New Brighton. You can book a chair in person at the box office counter, by calling 0151 666 0000 or online at Beach Wheelchair Rental - Floral Pavilion.
