Exclusive 2-for-1 ticket offer with Autism Together
We've got a great 2-for-1 offer to share with you for tickets to a new play this week at the Floral Pavillion, in New Brighton.
Corrie Star Vicky Entwistle is heading to Wirral next week to take part in Living the Life of Riley this Thursday 17 July. A heart-warming tale of a family coping with autism, teenage tantrums...and Grandma!
Vicky read the script for Living the Life of Riley and got on board immediately. She describes the play as heartwarming, heartbreaking and hilarious at the same time.
“This play is not just focused on the challenges of autism; it’s about the dynamics of an ordinary family trying to cope with everyday life as well as an autism diagnosis being thrown into the mix!” Vicky said.
The play was written by Alison Stanley. She began jotting down her thoughts when she found out her own son Jay was diagnosed with autism. As well as the experiences of other families she met.
Some stories were upsetting but some were very funny and she turned these memories into a script.
By this point, Jay was expressing a desire to work in theatre. He made his acting debut in the play, and who better to play his stage mother than his real-life mum, and author of the play, Alison Stanley!
It received rapturous reviews at Edinburgh Fringe, with Culture Vulture saying it was “beautifully written and full of touching moments.”
Another publication described it as “raw, uncomfortable and hilarious.”
The story follows the life of Joanne Riley. Who always knew there was something different about her son Jackson. He didn’t interact with other kids, was very demanding and rarely spoke.
Then came the bombshell, Jackson was diagnosed with autism. Everyone tried to pull together but when Grandma moved in to ‘help out’, things took a downward turn!
