Getting outdoors is for every body

The tops of trees against a blue sky

Here on Wirral we are blessed with an plenty of green spaces and beautiful beaches. However, it's not always easy for people with a disability to access outdoor spaces!

This July, Every Body Moves' #AccessibleOutdoors campaign is back for a second year. It's all about celebrating real stories of disabled people enjoying nature. Getting active in ways that work for them, and building a more accessible outdoors for all!

We want to celebrate some of the great inclusive activities across Wirral. To show that every body belongs in sport.

First up is a local charity Barnstondale Centre: an inclusive residential education and activity centre in Wirral. Barnstondale helps children of all abilities develop life skills, confidence and self-esteem.

It is the only centre on Merseyside offering such a wide range of facilities and activities for children with disabilities to enjoy and learn, alongside their able-bodied peers. Their cabins are wheelchair friendly and have lifts to upper floors. And there is also a specialist cabin for users with severe disabilities.

Some of the fab activities available include:

  • Climbing

  • Archery

  • Abseiling

  • Campfires

  • Teambuilding

  • Obstacle courses

  • And much more!
