Have your say on the future of Wirral Adult Day Services

Wirral Council is asking for your views on the future of Adult Day Services. A public consultation is now open and runs for 12 weeks from Monday 16 February 2026. We are now halfway through the consultation, and your voice matters.

This consultation looks at how Adult Day Services could change in the future. These services support adults who need care, including many people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). If your child or young person may need support as an adult, this consultation is especially important for you.

Why this consultation matters to families with SEND

Adult Day Services help people live full and independent lives. They can support learning, wellbeing, friendships and daily skills.

The proposed redesign focuses on:

  • A rolling 4‑week programme, so people can join at different times and get support that fits their needs

  • Preparation for adulthood, including building skills for adult life

  • Support for carers, recognising the important role families play

If your child or young person is aged 14 or older, this is a key time to start planning for adulthood. Your feedback can help shape services they may use in the future.

What is changing

Wirral Council wants to redesign Adult Day Services so they:

  • better reflect what people want and need

  • support independence and wellbeing

  • offer flexible support that can change over time

A rolling 4‑week programme means activities and support repeat every four weeks. This helps people join when they are ready, rather than waiting for long start dates.

The redesign also looks at support for all aspects of being a carer. This includes recognising the pressures carers face and making sure services work well for families, not just individuals.

How parents, carers and young people can take part

Your lived experience is valuable. The council wants to hear from:

  • parents and carers of children and young people with SEND

  • young people who may use Adult Day Services in the future

  • families who already use day services

You can:

  • read the consultation documents

  • complete the online survey

  • attend engagement events to share your views in person or online

All feedback will help shape the final proposals that will be shared with Councillors.

Take part before the consultation closes

This is your chance to influence services that may support your family in the years ahead. Taking part now helps ensure Adult Day Services work for real people and real lives.
