Capa First Response – Support for Parents and Carers

With the school holidays approaching we know some families will experience distressed behaviours in their children and young people. That’s why we want to let you know about an organisation that offers online support throughout the year.

Capa First Response is a UK-based CIC offering expert, compassionate support to families and professionals dealing with child-to-parent aggression (CAPA). The child can be up to 18 years, or 25 with SEND. The distressed behaviours they exhibit can be harmful or aggressive toward a parent or caregiver. Capa avoid the term “abuse,” choosing less stigmatizing language to help families feel understood and supported.

All support is free and available online, so families can access help from anywhere.

What Support Is Available

Capa First Response offers a range of support for parents and carers, including:

  • Weekly online drop‑in sessions

  • Advice and support sessions

  • Group programmes

  • One‑to‑one support

  • Practical resources and guidance

Their work helps parents understand the reasons behind their child’s behaviour and develop safer, more positive ways to respond and communicate.

Online Drop‑In Sessions

The online drop‑in is often the first step for families who are looking for support. You can expect

  • A free, one-hour weekly session led by experienced practitioners

  • A safe, supportive and non‑judgemental space to get advice

  • You can listen or ask questions through the chat—you don’t need to speak

  • Cameras and microphones are off to help you feel comfortable and anonymous

The sessions are held every Wednesday, 12:30–1:30pm. Additional sessions may run at other times too. You can book a place at a session here or on CAPA’s website. All sessions are easy to access on phone, tablet or computer.

Why Parents Use This Service

Many parents worry about being judged or blamed when their SEND child displays aggressive or harmful behaviours. Capa First Response is designed to remove those barriers by offering:

  • A confidential and understanding environment

  • Support from experienced professionals

  • Practical advice that can be used straight away

  • A way to feel less alone and more in control

The drop‑in sessions can also help you decide if you’d like further support, such as one‑to‑one work or group programmes.

You are not alone

Capa First Response offers free, accessible support to help you and your family feel safer, more confident, and better understood. Details of all the CAPA sessions are on What’s On along with other support. Our SENDLO Officer is always available at the SENDLO Drop Ins to chat and find support for the whole family.
