CoLLaB: A New Support Centre for Carers Opens in Wirral
A new Carer Connection Centre, called CoLLaB, has now opened at Greasby Library. CoLLaB stands for Community Opportunities, Living, Learning, Aspirations and Beginnings and has been created by Wirral Carer’s Alliance. It aims to support anyone who cares for a child, young person or adult who needs extra help. This includes parents and carers of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The centre opened its doors on 11 March 2026. Carers were invited to drop in, meet staff, and learn about the help available. The aim is simple: to give carers the right support at the right time.
A Rolling Four‑Week Programme of Support
CoLLaB runs a programme of support that repeats every four weeks. This makes it easy to join at any point and still get the full range of help. Each week focuses on one of four themes:
Health and Wellbeing – support to stay healthy in body and mind.
Practical Support and Resources – everyday help, such as advice, local services and tools to make caring easier.
Finance, Legal and Carers’ Rights – clear information about money, benefits, legal issues and your rights as a carer.
Training, Education and Employment – support for learning, work or volunteering.
These sessions run every Wednesday. Carers can pop in for a quick chat or stay longer for workshops, training or group discussions. Greasby is a central location with good transport links to make it easier for carers to get there.
Support for All Aspects of Being a Carer
Caring can be rewarding, but it can also feel overwhelming. CoLLaB aims to ease that pressure. Carers can meet others who understand the challenges of caring for a loved one. Staff and partner organisations are there to listen, guide and connect carers with practical help.
There are quiet areas for private conversations, rooms for training, and space for larger coaching sessions. CoLLaB works with many organisations, so carers can get a wide mix of support in one place.
A Focus on Preparation for Adulthood
Many parents and carers of young people with SEND want support as their child moves into adulthood. CoLLaB offers plenty of help in this area. Preparation for adulthood includes planning for future learning, work, independent living and health needs. It may also include discussions about care as an adult. CoLLaB aims to cover all of these issues to help parents and carers manage the transition to adulthood with confidence.
Find Out More
CoLLaB sessions run every Wednesday at Greasby Library, from 10am to 3pm. From May this will extend to 6:30pm so that working carers can find support too. Carers can drop in at times that suit them. The team at Wirral Carer’s Alliance aims to provide that is flexible and shaped by what carers say they need.
